Introduction To NEET Exam
The full form of NEET is National Eligibility Entrance Test and it started in 2013. Before the enactment of the NMC Act of 2019, there were more than one medical test held at different levels and also some college specific-entrance tests like AIIMS and JIPMER separately, now there is only one medical entrance exam, namely NEET since 2019. It was first started and monitored by the Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSEuntil 2018. Then the control was passed over to the National Testing Agency or NTA in 2019 to administer the NEET exams, the NTA then sends all the results of NEET to the Directorate General of Health Services to assign the allocated seats to the selected candidates. Basic general knowledge for all, The Directorate General of Health Services falls under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and State Counselling Authorities.
National Eligibility Entrance Test provides admissions opportunities to more than 60,000 seats across India. The many degrees offered after qualifying NEET are MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS and BHMS. There are two types of NEET exams categorized as NEET-UG (under- graduation) and NEET-PG (post-graduation) both administered by NTA. Students having a solid background and qualifying marks (total aggregate) in Physics, Chemistry, Biology can appear for NEET-UG. NEET-PG is for those who want to apply for advanced or master’s degree like MD or MS and other post-grad medical degrees. NEET is held annually across India with a duration of 3 hours in over 11 different languages having a total of 720 marks
What Is NEET Exam?
NEET or the National Eligibility Entrance Test, it is an all-India entrance test for candidates who wants to have a career in the medical world. Before NEET was referred to as, All-India Pre-Medical Test or AIPMT. NEET is actually a pre-assessment entrance test to study medicine for those students who want to have a medical degree. The most famous medical degrees which you can apply for after successfully passing NEET are MBBS (basic graduation degree), BDS (basic graduation degree in dental) and AYUSH (basic graduation degree in the field of Ayurveda, Naturopathy and Homeopathy).
To have a better understanding, we can say that NEET is the amalgamation of all the previously held State and National Medical exams formed into a singular All-India medical entrance exam since 2019 under the newly enacted NMC Act of 2019 by the Govt. of India.
NEET Exam Criteria
The basic criteria for appearing for the NEET examinations are:
1. The minimum age of a candidate who wants to appear in this exam should be at least 17 years of age by December 31, 2021.
2. On the other hand, 25 is the upper or maximum age limit for a candidate who wants to appear for NEET 2021, although provisionally.
3. The maximum age limit for NEET-UG is 25 years for General category students and for SC/ST/OBC and PwD students there is a relaxation of up to 5 years.
4. The basic but the must-required educational qualification for appearing in the NEET is that the candidate should have the passing marks in the 10 2 board exams (CBSE, ICSE or equivalent State-wise Board exams) including the qualifying marks in the core subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English) also.
5. The minimum qualification percentage (total aggregate) for the core subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) are different for different categories, as stated:
- General – 50%,
- SC/ST/OBC – 40%,
- PWD – 45%
6. There is no specific limit to the number of attempts for the NEET exam as it has not been specified by the NTA.
7. Indian Nationals, Person of Indian origin, NRIs and also aspiring foreign nationals can apply to appear in the exam.

The NEET Exam paper patterns are decided by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and are conducted by the NTA, the same process will be followed for the upcoming NEET Exam 2021 also.

How To Prepare For NEET?
Some tips for you to prepare for the NEET exams:
- Clear idea about the whole syllabus and familiarity with each of the items in the syllabus.
- Proper knowledge of the core subjects is a must i.e., Biology mainly but also Physics and Chemistry.
- Accurate time management by following a specified routine.
- Practicing and solving previous years sample question banks.
- Improving accuracy and increasing speed by giving a lot of mock exams.
- Lastly, having some amount of self-confidence to appear for the exam.
