ISEE (Independent School Entrance Examination) is an entrance exam admission of students into schools between 2nd to 12th grade in the USA and is conducted by ERB (Educational Records Bureau). This exam helps to analyze student’s basic ability tests through verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, comprehension, and mathematics. Based on their scores the school will admit them into their campus.

ISEE Test Preparation

- Give importance to basics: The questions asked will be from the fundamental concepts and students are advised to be thorough with basics.
- Know the exam requirement: The subjects in ISEE will evaluate student’s knowledge on subjects, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, analytical thinking, and basic english knowledge. Thus students have to work on these areas in the syllabus and improve.
- Unscored section: There are some unscored questions also known as experimental questions which are unrevealed in the exam. These questions are not added to the main score but will be evaluated by the respective school, so students need to think beyond scoring to get into their desired school. Unscored questions are covered in all 4 topics and the essay.
- Maintain discipline: Studying 1 or 2 hours daily with a good amount of practice tests can easily help get good grades.
- Practice more: Practice makes the differentiating factor for scoring more or less.
- Solve question papers: Solving previous years question papers and some mock tests will give high confidence in attempting the main exam.
ISEE Test Dates
The exam can be taken up to 3 times a year.

ISEE Exam Pattern
It consists of 4 main topics:
- Verbal Reasoning
- Quantitative Reasoning
- Reading Comprehension
- Mathematics Achievement
Apart from this, students must write an essay to the schools to which they are applying. The random topic will be given to students which they have 30 minutes to complete, the essay writing scores will not be considered for the final grade.
The exam duration will be 2 hours 50 minutes for middle and higher levels, 2 hours 30 minutes for the lower level.
ISEE Scoring
Since the exam is conducted in different regions and times, scores are normalized using 4 scoring methods.
- Raw score: It is the actual marks scored by the individual.
- Scaled score: The raw score will be scaled between 760 to 940 based on the difficulty and performance of other individuals.
- Percentile score: It converts the scaled scoring into percentile form i.e., on a scale of 100. This gives how better the student performed when compared to others.
- Stanine: Percentile is converted to Stanine on a scale from 1 to 9.
