Introduction To Banking Exam

Banking exams are one of the prestigious job profiles in India. The craze of getting into one is increasing among the youths every year. Because of this, the competition for the exam is increasing year on year with higher cut off. The candidates who have planned and executed well in the preparation has the edge in passing the exam.

Banking Exam Types

The Indian bank exam is mainly conducted by:

• IBPS (Indian institute of banking and personnel section)
• SBI (State bank of India)
• RBI (Reserve bank of India)
• Others like insurance, Indian post payments, NABARD, etc.

The recruitment for government banks/public sector units (PSU) is done by IBPS with an exception of SBI as they conduct their recruitment process. For private banks, they will usually recruit from campus placements and through job interviews. Candidates need to follows their websites to know about the vacancies and apply to the relevant posts.

Probationary Officers (PO) Exam

• It is one of the famous and largest posts of bank exam. IBPS and SBI conduct this exam for the post of probationary officer which is a training program.
• Once the training is done, they will be moved to management profiles. IBPS conducts the exam officially in the name of CWE (common written exam).
• Some of the insurance companies and rural banks also recruit from this exam.

Clerk Exam

• Similar to the PO exam IBPS and SBI conducts Bank Clerk exam for clerical roles.
• When you compare both clerk and PO posts, PO is superior to clerical and they supervise the clerks.
• Once candidate makes into the clerk exam, they can get promoted to PO role with experience.

Specialist Officer (SO) Exam

• IBPS and SBI conduct SO exams for specialist officer posts. In PO, usually, an employee works in multiple departments but in SO, a person will be allocated to only one particular department.
• The posts will be minimal compared to PO but the posting locations will be in zonal areas, thus chances of posting in urban areas are high compared to PO. But growth-wise and experience-wise PO takes an advantage.

• Marketing officer

RBI Bank Exams

• RBI conducts their own exams i.e., RBI Assistant and RBI Grade B exams for the respective roles.
• The position will be very less but the applications will be very high. Usually, it will be in hundreds of seats and applicants will be in millions.
• Because of this, the competition becomes very intense and hard to crack. But RBI is the central bank and controls all other banks, getting into it is prestigious than all other exams.

Exam Preparation Tips

The exam is highly competitive. A candidate who maintains discipline and executes his daily plan will be able to crack the exam with minimum attempts

• Follow the 8-hour rule: Good practice is to spend 1 hour for newspaper and general awareness, 4 hours for Mains syllabus, and 3 Hours for prelims syllabus with frequent breaks.
• Study hard things at the silent hour: The silent hours refer to the midnight period (11 PM-2 AM) or early morning period (5 AM-7 AM). Based on the convenience, choose to study at silent hours. During that time, disturbances will be less and that silent environment makes the mind grasp quickly.
• Creating a checklist: Having a record as to what needs to be done every day with time slots and giving honest feedback will improve the study discipline.
