Introduction To ISEE
The following article provides an outline for ISEE Upper Level Test. Conducting entrance tests for school or college admissions is a common thing now. Students who want to seek admissions in elite private schools need to appear for a special entrance test depending upon the level of the class they are seeking admissions. ISEE is the entrance test that is conducted all over the world for K-12 grades.
What Is ISEE?
Independent School Entrance Exam or ISEE is an assessment test that evaluates the students mathematical, reasoning skills, and achievement skills. This test is designed and conducted by ERB. Students do not need to worry about where their families live, they can still appear for the exam in online mode.
Key Takeaways
- ISEE is considered to be an elite exam that assesses students, especially in critical areas. This test is different from other entrance tests as it not only focuses on what students know but also it measures how they think.
- As the exam is divided into different levels, the upper level ISEE is for students who seek admissions to grades 9-12.
- The ISEE upper level Exam duration is 2 hours 40 minutes. Like other ISEE Exams, it is also conducted in three seasons: fall, winter, and summer.
- ISEE scores are considered as one of the scrutiny criteria for awarding scholarships, and merit-based financial aids to students by many educational institutes.
ISEE Upper Level Test
Students can appear for the ISEE upper level test by registering for the exam on the conducting authority website. Students can appear for the exam once for the season which means students can appear for the ISEE Exam three times a year. This test does not penalize students for guessing answers. No deduction in marks for wrong answers so students can at least make a fair guess for the right answers.
Like other ISEE Exam, the ISEE upper level test includes five sections:
Sr. No | Section Name | Time Duration | No. Of Questions | Topics Covered |
1 | Verbal reasoning | 20 minutes | 40 MCQs | Synonyms, vocabulary knowledge, complete sentences |
2 | Quantitive reasoning | 35 minutes | 37 MCQs | Algebra, mathematical reasoning, basic arithmetic |
3 | Reading comprehension | 35 minutes | 36 MCQs | Extract salient features, central theme, questions based on that |
4 | Mathematical achievement | 40 minutes | 47 MCQs | Geometry, algebra, mathematical comprehension |
5 | Essay section | 30 minutes | 1 question | Comprehension and presentation skills |
ISEE Upper Level Math
The ISEE upper level math section is based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) to evaluate the Mathematical ability of the applying students.
Here is the detailed syllabus for quantitive reasoning and mathematical achievement sections:
1. Algebra
- Learn, understand, analyse the mathematical or graphical scenarios that include patterns, functions, and basic mathematical relations.
- Depict real-world situations using symbolic equations or graphical representations.
- Understanding of symbolic equations, tables, and graphs.
- Symbolic manipulation for equivalent equations, expressions.
2. Numerical Operations
- Basic numerical operations, relationship between numbers, relations of operations.
- Comparisons and operations of whole numbers, rational, real, complex, integer numbers.
- Matrices and vector operations.
- Combination and permutations.
3. Measurement
- Make, use formulae for measurable features of objects.
- Make use of formula for area, surface area, and volume calculation for cones, cylinders, spheres.
- Units and scales decision-making for problems.
4. Data Analysis And Probability
- Set of data – analyse, interpret and inference making, interpret, predictions, display.
- Probability concepts.
- Calculations of the mean, median, range, standard deviation, mode.
- Probability and expected values calculations.
ISEE Upper Level Practice
- As the upper level tests of ISEE are complex in nature so students should focus on through study and high-end practice. The practice tests available online or offline follow the same structure as the main exam paper so students can get an idea about the nature of the question paper.
- There are several additional questions that will not contribute to scores report but are used for future tests. So, practice tests may have less time duration than the actual ISEE tests.
- Solving sample practice tests will help you to determine the pace for yourself for the actual ISEE upper-level test.
ISEE Upper Level Test Dates
ISEE tests are conducted on a seasonal basis that is three tests per academic year. Students are restricted to apply for one test per season limiting a maximum of 3 per academic year.
Due to Covid-19 outspread, the schedule has been postponed to other dates that are soon to be declared.
Normally, the season-wise tests are conducted in the months of:
Testing Seasons | Month Of Test |
